Our Community Involvement
On March 16, 2020 Pierce County Schools began preparations to close all of our schools due to COVID-19. The Pierce County Nutrition Program as with other nutrition programs across the nation began making plans to serve our students under USDA Emergency Meal Waivers. In less than 48 hours, we had a plan in place and began preparing grab and go meals for our students and families. Since we began serving meals on March 18, we have served over 36,000 meals to Pierce County students and families. In addition and because of the generosity of an anonymous donor and McDonalds in Blackshear and the Pierce County Foundation for Excellence in Education, Inc., McDonalds food certificates were provided to Pierce County students and families along with their meals.
